Specifications:Release NotesThe UPD version 4.1 is the latest version of HP's Universal Print Driver. Please review the entire document for information on issues resolved, performance improvements, and new behavior changes to the UPD.Important change to UPD 4.1 Policy managementThe Universal Print Driver version 4.1 Policy Management settings will now be set to DISABLED by default when installing the UPD. This means that whether the UPD is installed via the Add Printer Wizard or Install.exe using the default settings, the UPD will not search for an installation of Managed Printing Administrator Software, or the Active Directory Administrative Templates.Installation ImplicationsWhen installing or upgrading to UPD 4.1 through the Add Printer Wizard, the Policy Settings will be set to disabled. When installing or upgrading the UPD 4.1 through the Install.exe utility you have the option of enabling or disabling policy management. We have added some additional installation switches to help you further customize your UPD environment. Below are the installation switches which can be used to customize your UPD Policy Management environment./policy"servername" - Enables policy management for MPA and points the UPD to the server named in the parenthesis. It also enables management via AD template./epfhkcu - Enables MPA Policy checking and assumes Managed-Print is the name of the server where MPA resides. AD templates management is enabled./empa - Enables MPA policy checking for current user using current policy settings (default is to use managed-print). Using the /policy"your_mpa_server" command line option is the equivalent of enabling MPA policy checking and forcing the MPA server to query the http server "your_mpa_server"./dmpa - Disables MPA policy checking for current user./eads - Enables ADS policy checking for current user using current policy settings./dads - Disables ADS policy checking for current user./pqdmpa - Disables MPA policy checking for the current print queue (logical windows printer) no matter who uses it./pqdads - Disables ADS policy checking for the current print queue (logical windows printer) no matter who uses it.Installing UPD 4.1First time Driver installation: Policy is disabledWhen using the Add Printer Wizard or the Install.exe file to install the UPD 4.1 for the first time on a PC, the default behavior will be that the Policy management is disabled. This means that the UPD will not search for management Policy information created either by the Managed Printer Administrator software, or by the Active Directory Administrative Templates.Enable Policy management for UPD 4.1To enable policy management for the UPD 4.1 please use one of the switches mentioned above somewhere in your install command string: /epfhkcu for example:Example: install /epfhkcu /sm15.15.15.32 /n"hpclj4700-poleR5"The above command will result in a traditional mode UPD printer being installed on the computer with a name of hpclj4700-pole5 in a PC with the UPD policy management enabled.Note: the above command assumes that the MPA software is installed on a server named "managed-print"Additionally, the following command can also be used to enable policy management, and redirect the UPD to search for an alternative server name to find the Managed Printing Administrator software….. install /Policy"computename" ( replace computername with the name of the actual server running the MPA software). The /policy"computername" switch will tell the UPD to look at the server named "computername" to find the policy files generated by MPA.
